PIGIARVIK: INUKTUT FOUNDATIONS
For those from outside of Inuit culture, Pirurvik offers a series of courses to bring students from the beginner to intermediate level. Pirurvik creates an all-Inuktut immersion environment right from the very first class.
PIGIArVIK (Level 1)
Length of Course: 30 hours
Pigiarvik 1 introduces students to Inuktut pronunciation and grammar while enabling them to build basic skills including:
• introductions,
• asking and answering simple questions,
• using the singular, dual an dplural properly,
• beginner level language for various situations in the home and workplace.
PIGIARVIK 2
Length of Course: 30 hours
Pigiarvik 2 builds more complex language skills including:
• talking about events in the past and future,
• telling time,
• possession and the location of objects.
Students are introduced to the syllabic writing system, but will focus on working on regular writing assignments in qaliujaaqpait (roman orthography).
PIGIARVIK 3
Length of Course: 30 hours
Pigiarvik 3 completes the introduction to the fundamentals of Inuktut grammar. Participants gain confidence in reading and writing in qaniujaaqpait (syllabics). They are also able to use the language with more complexity to talk about such topics as travel plans, daily routines and their likes and dislikes.
