GRAPHIC DESIGNER (IQALUIT)

Job Description

Pirurvik strives to offer productions of the highest quality as part of our efforts to advance Inuit language, culture and wellbeing.  This includes vibrant publications to showcase our learning materials and different aspects of Inuit knowledge and skills.

The Graphic Designer will play an important role in the development of new publications, teaching and learning resources, and digital productions.  The position will also make improvements to our existing publications so that all of our collection shares a common, high-quality design.

Reporting to the Director of Productions, the position is based in Iqaluit and will be an active participant in Pirurvik’s creative teams.

Responsibilities 

Under the supervision of the Director of Productions, the Graphic Designer will:

·       Provide daily support to Pirurvik instructors in designing and assisting with the layout and production of print and web-based publications in the areas of Inuit language and wellbeing.

·       Assist with the design and maintenance of Pirurvik’s website, online learning management systems and social media;

·       Incorporate suggestions by Pirurvik’s creative team into final designs;

·       Review designs for errors before production;

·       Assist with archiving photographs, video and other content that instructors and Pirurvik staff can access

·       Take part in skills training and upgrading as required, including Inuktut training.

·       Other duties as required in support of Pirurvik’s initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

·      Experience designing and producing print and/or digital publications or artwork

·      Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator) would be an asset but on-the-job training is available;

·      Strong computer skills are essential;

·      A high school diploma is required;

Abilities in speaking and writing Inuktut would be a strong asset but on-the-job training is available.
